Louisville has enacted ordinances to regulate the use of short-term rentals (usually made available through Airbnb, VRBO and other online platforms). A homeowner must register their short-term rental with the city of Louisville and pay the bed tax and occupational tax. Advertising and/or operating a short-term rental without registration and approval will result in enforcement action and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
If you own property other than your primary residence that you want to register as a short-term rental, you will also need to apply for a separate conditional use permit. The conditional use permit process takes 4-6 months and requires neighborhood meetings and public hearings regarding the change in use of your property. All requirements for short-term rental conditional use permits can be found in the Louisville Metro Short-Term Rental Ordinance here: https://louisvilleky.gov/document/ord0562019pdf-0
